On September 13-14, BSA Venturing Crew One planned a bikepacking trip in the Gallatin Mountains. Part of the planning included the process of discovering which trails were open to mountain biking, and which trails were not, since we’d be near and inside the Hyalite-Porcupine Wilderness Study Area. After researching our options, we realized that most of the trails that had been open previously are now closed to mountain biking, so we decided to revise our plans, maintain our desire to visit the WSA, and backpack instead. We’ll be staying at the Windy Pass cabin and exploring the Gallatin Crest between Sentinel Peak and Eaglehead Peak. Check in here – I’ll write one or two dispatches from the trek detailing our activities.
